About Us
The Upper Midwest Scuba & Adventure Travel Show is sponsored by the Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society is a non-profit, 501.c.3 organization established in 1996 to stabilize and protect our deteriorating shipwrecks of the Great Lakes region. The GLSPS sponsored scuba show began in 1999 as “Dive Into the Past” to showcase shipwreck diving, sport diving and maritime history in the Great Lakes. The show has expanded over the years to include: ocean diving, technical diving, and adventure travel.
The UMSAT show is the major fundraiser to support the GLSPS projects that help preserve and document shipwrecks. The GLSPS sponsors many programs and service projects each year to realize its purpose. These range from our North Shore shipwreck buoy program, to our Put-It-Back program, our National Register of Historic Places nomination program, and our shipwreck stabilization work. Each year GLSPS partners with Lake Superior Marine Museum Association, Wisconsin Underwater Archeology Association and Superior Museums to do annual maintenance and improvements to the museum ship SS Meteor in Superior Wisconsin. Membership is open to anyone. For more information about the GLSPS, please visit our website at https://www.glsps.org/.
